Youth Minister & Religious Education Coordinator
Job Description
Status: Hourly Full-Time Reports to: Pastor Revised: May 1, 2024
Primary Function: The Director of Religious Education / Youth Minister demonstrates ministry leadership in building a faith foundation for preschool aged through high school-aged youth; solely designs, develops, directs, and evaluates the catechetical programs of preschool-aged through high school aged youth and provides evangelization through adult faith formation opportunities.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Direct Parish School Religion(s)
- Facilitate Youth Ministry and co-ordinate RCIC Programs
- Assist Pastor in preparation of liturgical/sacramental events for youth and their parents
- Provide training and development opportunities for adults and young people to assume leadership roles
- Facilitate Virtus program (before hire and volunteer requirement)
Specific Responsibilities
- Recruits, trains, and supervises Parish School Religion and Sacrament catechists
- Meets regularly with Pastor and other staff regarding parish educational needs
- Develops individualized programs for parishioners with special religious education needs
- Supports day-school religious education instruction
- Develops a systematic and intentional plan for youth catechesis that utilizes a creative variety of formats and settings
- Participates in parish diocesan, staff, and catechetical ministry meetings
- Sets calendar for catechetical programs and events
- Schedules youth mass servers
- Supports Parish School Religion and Sacrament catechists by providing catechetical formation event information and maintaining records of basic catechists and advanced catechist’s certification process
Qualifications
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic as evidenced by your parish’s pastor
- Must have a baccalaureate degree in a related field
- Must possess leadership skills for the faith formation and catechesis of youth, youth leaders and PSR volunteers as well as day-school teachers
- Must have a commitment to the mission of the St. Augustine parish community
- Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality
- Self-motivated, independent worker able to take direction from Pastor his designee and work well with others
- Ability to learn and utilize various technology platforms to communicate, promote and enhance all aspects of ministry
