Communications Specialist

Summary:

The Communications Specialist works as part of a collaborative communications team to provide the community, students, parents, educators and staff with information about Kalamazoo RESA’s Early Childhood and Special Education programs, along with the agency’s goals and services. Other responsibilities include independently curating content to share with the community, designing and producing innovative concepts for the organization’s brand, marketing or web development goals, as well as materials for special events and county-wide initiatives.

 

The position requires a high level of organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple communications initiatives and social media accounts. The Communications Specialist must also have intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of digital media platforms, design principles and tools.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and distributing internal and external publicity for Kalamazoo RESA or assigned district-related activities.
  • Manage and enhance content for multiple social media platforms, focusing on storytelling that highlights the impact of Early Childhood and Special Education programs. Design and implement comprehensive marketing campaigns that communicate the value and impact of KRESA’s programs to diverse audiences, using a variety of digital and print media.
  • Develop multimedia content tailored for web, social media, and traditional media outlets, ensuring alignment with strategic communication goals. Create marketing materials including brochures, email campaigns, presentation decks, reports, press releases, and promotional videos.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and program staff to gather compelling stories and generate content that resonates with families and community stakeholders.
  • Provide photography and videography support at events and within classrooms, capturing the essence of our educational impact.
  • Travel to various RESA sites to support site-specific public information needs.
  • Write, edit, and distribute newsletters, publications, and flyers, ensuring they meet brand standards and communication objectives.
  • Assist in planning and executing county-wide events and recognition programs such as the Excellence in Education and Significant Educator Awards.
  • Ensure the consistent application of brand and visual identity across all communication materials and platforms.
  • Assist local districts with planning and implementing county-wide events, e.g. Excellence in Education Awards
  • Regular and consistent attendance

Physical Demands:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
