Outreach & Program Planner

Outreach & Program Planner – Solid Waste Management District

This position provides outreach to the public to promote community awareness of responsible recycling and solid waste management in compliance with the Solid Waste Management Plan.

Job Duties:

Actively promotes recycling campaigns; proposes, creates and promotes new campaigns as outlined in the Solid Waste Management Plan; participates in various community and university events; designs and coordinates displays; answers questions and distributes information; may assist in planning and coordinating events; schedules and presents presentations to all ages; performs outreach to engage other demographics; conducts tours of the Landfill.

Requests, reviews, and compiles the residential, commercial, and industrial data required in the process of preparing the Annual District Report for submission to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.  Analyzes and explains variances in year over year data to the OEPA.

Substantially contributes to the required Solid Waste Management Plan updates and rewrites; recommends recycling outreach activities in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Plan; assists with the creation and monitoring of the SWMD’s budget per the plan, including revenue and expenditures; tracks activity towards meeting plan goals, implements corrective action if off plan based on input from the Policy Committee.

Presents updates to the SWMD Policy Committee on Waste Reduction and Recycling activities per the 5-Year Plan.  Works with the Policy Committee to identify potential upcoming activities that align with goals identified in the plan.

Writes grants including narrative, creating budgets, obtaining quotes, implementation, and ensuring compliance with all grant closeout requirements.

Attends meetings and makes presentations about available programs; reaches out to community organizations to encourage them to recycle by promoting available programs.

Performs customer service functions; answers phone, responds to emails, assists walk-in customers; provides information/assistance regarding department/division services, activities, procedures, or other issues; distributes forms/documentation; responds to routine questions or complaints; researches problems/complaints; and initiates problem resolution; assists with accounts receivable as needed.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Communication or Marketing combined with up to two year’s experience in public speaking and presenting to groups of all sizes and ages or any equivalent combination of education and experience that allows you to perform the essential functions and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Requires a valid driver’s license.
