This position is located in the Emissions Inventory Section, Bureau of Air Quality. Job duties include serving as the lead analyst in the SC Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Program and assisting with the SC Radon Program. Other duties include calculating, tracking, and reviewing pollutant emissions from various sectors, including large, stationary sources, smaller-emitting sources, and mobile sources.

 


Job Duties:
 

  • Targets diesel emissions reductions by serving as lead analyst of the State and/ or National DERA Program. Oversees and administers all aspects of the DERA Program. Duties include managing the request for proposals, selecting and monitoring projects, and developing contractual agreements. Receives, reviews, and submits reports and emissions data to the EPA.
  • Serves as back-up analyst in the Radon Program. Assists by responding to radon inquiries from the public and distributing radon test kits and educational materials.  Provides guidance on results and testing. Promotes radon awareness and mitigation through education and outreach at public and private events.
  • Assists in development and review of the point source emissions inventory.   Reviews, evaluates, and calculates pollutant emissions data from regulated facilities and updates emissions data in the state air database.
  • Assists with development of emission estimates and data for other sectors.   Researches, calculates, and analyzes emissions and pollution estimates.  Participates in committees, webinars, and meetings related to the sector emissions as needed.

 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Additional Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in natural or physical sciences or a related technical field; or an associate degree in a technical field and 3 years of environmental health or related experience; or high school diploma and 5 years of environmental health or related experience.
 
 

Preferred Qualifications

The ability to comprehend and communicate clearly and concisely in both an oral and written manner. Strong computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word, is preferred.
 
Experience in promoting and supporting voluntary programs or initiatives through awareness and outreach.
