AmeriCorps VISTA was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 as a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs under the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). AmeriCorps VISTA Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

Virginia Housing Alliance VISTA Project

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) located in Arlington, VA.

APAH’s mission is to develop, preserve, and own quality, affordable places to live, to promote stability and opportunity for their residents, and to advocate with the people and communities they serve. APAH provides apartment homes to more than 2,600 low- and moderate- income households in the DC region. These stable homes are just the first step; low-income families face a multitude of challenges and barriers. APAH’s resident services program provides support and opportunity, in collaboration with community partners. To meet the goal of strengthening resident stability and economic opportunity, APAH’s resident services team proactively seeks to understand resident needs to offer appropriate support and programming. APAH is seeking a detail-oriented, organized self-starter with strong skills in time management to serve as a Quality Assurance VISTA. The VISTA member will aid in the continued development and execution of a Quality Assurance evaluation plan for the resident services team with the goal of enabling APAH to meet their residents' needs more effectively and efficiently. The VISTA will also gain exposure and experience with database management, data analysis, data visualization, and monitoring and evaluation practices in a social work setting.

Member Duties: Under the guidance of APAH’s Data Analytics Manager, the VISTA will work to refine and improve upon APAH’s current evaluation plan to help determine exact steps needed to measure the effectiveness of APAH’s resident services programming. Using methods such as surveys, phone interviews, and case notes audits, the VISTA will evaluate activities, outcomes and impacts to demonstrate whether Resident Services programming is deployed effectively. In addition, VISTA will incorporate new activities into the quality assurance plan such as the team’s updated handbook, training schedules and new software tools. The plan will be supported and reviewed by senior leadership within the Resident Services and Resource Development and Communications team. In addition, VISTA will receive training and provide support on projects related to resident data collection, analysis, management and cleaning.

Living Allowance: The APAH VISTA member will receive a living allowance of $1,036 bi-weekly.
