Job Title: Lab Intern (liquid Coatings)

General Description: 

To gain real world experience in the successful manufacturing of paint products by performing the duties of their full time Chemists and Lab personal counterparts. This includes supporting management in the implementation of manufacturing water-borne, high solids, 2K (epoxy & urethane) and customized paint technologies for use in various Industrial manufacturing markets.



Essential Job Functions:

·       Consult with management regarding quality issues

·      Design and evaluate quality specifications and auditing programs

·      Conduct quality system testing and evaluations using statistical analysis

·      Assist with computer inventory, lab management and data collection

·      Quality Control testing of raw materials, in process and finished goods to verify they meet the required specification (as applicable).

·      Documentation of testing results in SAP/Access databases

·      Creation of certificates of analysis which are provided to customers

·      Maintains quality records in a centralized filing system

·      Appropriately maintains testing standards

·      Calibration of Laboratory Equipment

·      Assures laboratory equipment is calibrated at applicable intervals. Takes actions if system falls outside of calibration ranges.

·      Documents results of calibration

·      Assures new lab equipment is added to the Lab Calibration Master list

·      Reports and assists production with internal non conformances investigation

·      Maintains appropriate levels of housekeeping and 5-S organization in the lab to assure accurate testing and a safe work environment.

·      Duties and Responsibilities Related to Hazardous Waste Management

·      All other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

·       Required

o  At least 3.0 gpa

o  Diligent work ethic and the ability to work independently.

o  Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details.

o  High energy level, confidence and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.

o  Excellent written and oral communications skills

o  Working knowledge laboratory equipment, calibration, good laboratory practices

·       Preferred

o  At least 1 years of work experience in Lab

o  Sage 50 experience

o  Ability to maintain the QC laboratory in good working order; with proper storage of chemicals, disposal of outdated chemicals, clean lab environment, periodic quality checks of instrumentation and equipment, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

o  Ability to help troubleshoot any difficulties in the testing procedures is a plus.

  • Ability to follow drafted test methods, component specifications, and laboratory SOP’s.
