Community Campus Coalition Student Resource Center AmeriCorps Member

This is a service position with the National and State AmeriCorps Program.

YOU MUST BE A  U.S. CITIZEN, U.S. NATIONAL, OR LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT ALIEN OF THE UNITED STATES TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION.

General Statement of Duties: In support of the mission of Community Campus Coalition, the AmeriCorps Student Resource Center Coordinator will support and foster the development and growth of Student Resource Centers (SRC), a Community Campus Coalition initiative. A SRC is a concept and location on campus where college students can be connected to campus, community, and state or federal resources to alleviate barriers they face. The SRC Coordinator will act as an active, approachable, knowledgeable, and open intermediary between students and the resources available to them. Any barrier that may cause a student to not succeed academically, withdraw from a course or leave an institution without earning a college degree or credential should be addressed at the Student Resource Center.

Required Minimum Service Hours: approximately 40 hours per week, a minimum total of 1700 hours by the end of service. 

General Service Schedule: Coordinator will serve 40 hours per week during the service dates listed above. Service hours typically take place during normal business hours Monday through Friday, but some site needs may require evening or weekend service. While the initial weekly schedule can be flexible, it should be maintained throughout the service period. Occasional evening and weekend hours outside the coordinator’s set schedule are required along with required trainings or meetings throughout the service year. 

Work Environment: This position usually operates in an academic office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This position will require the ability to regularly move between interior rooms and move across campus between buildings during service hours. Position will occasionally require the ability to lift and move boxes up to 20 pounds between rooms and buildings on campus. This position will require the ability to speak with and hear from college students who utilize the Student Resource Center. The person in this position may hear or discuss instances of uncomfortable or traumatic experiences, such as homelessness and food and resource insecurity.

Student Resource Center duties may include all or some of the following: 

  • Assess resource needs at SRC using surveys and dialogue with students, staff, and the larger community
  • Identify and document a range of campus and community resources that address student barriers
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with new and existing resource partners
  • Conduct intake assessments with students at the SRC to identify and assess barriers to academic and non-academic success
  • Connect students to campus, community, state and federal resources to alleviate existing barriers to academic and non-academic success
  • Follow-up with students after their visit to the SRC to determine if they have successfully connected with referred resources
  • Input data accurately and maintain database of survey results while handling confidential information professionally
  • Analyze student intake data to identify need, trends in coordination with Community Campus Coalition staff and external data evaluator and campus staff to identify broader impact
  • Interact in a positive, professional and cooperative manner with students, SRC staff, campus staff, campus faculty, and community partners as an AmeriCorps member

Service-Oriented duties include: 

  • Comply with all AmeriCorps program guidelines by maintaining and documenting all service hours, training hours, and service projects independently as outlined in the Community Campus Coalition AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement (MSA)
  • Attend required orientation days (early August), Community Campus Coalition Annual Meeting (early August), in-person Winter Retreat (dates TBD) and other required training or professional development opportunities (dates TBD)
  • Attend all required training and conferences, monthly AmeriCorps member meetings, campus staff meetings, and participate in required AmeriCorps service projects including Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service
  • Abide by the Student Resource Center policies and procedures as outlined by Community Campus Coalition and the site supervisor, along with campus policies and procedures
  • Refer appropriate questions or concerns to the AmeriCorps Site Supervisor and/or Community Campus Coalition staff
  • Understand and promote the Mission and Vision of Community Campus Coalition that values diversity, equity and inclusion, and celebrates the positive aspects of a multicultural society

Minimum Qualifications

The Student Resource Coordinator must; 

  • have a high school diploma and some college experience as a student
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • have the ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • have a working knowledge of computers and proficiency working with email, internet browsers, Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to learn internal database programs
  • have positive and professional written and oral communication skills
  • have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • maintain schedule flexibility to serve occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours for special projects and training opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

The Student Resource Center Coordinator should;

  • have experience working with diverse populations including under resourced students
  • have experience working or volunteering with programs that address barriers to academic success, such as health care, food access, or housing
  • have experience working one-on-one with college students
  • have experience working with community and campus partners
  • be highly organized and detail oriented
  • have experience successfully speaking in front of a group
  • have experience with program development and/or assessment
