Short Term Work Assignment: Forestry Communications Assistant

The mission of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is to ensure that Montana’s land and water resources provide benefits for present and future generations. The Forestry Division plans and implements forestry and fire management programs through an extensive network of staff in field offices across the state.

 

Overview: The DNRC is seeking a Forestry Communications Assistant to join our team in Missoula. In this role, you will work directly under the Forestry Communications Coordinator and provide administrative support to various programs within the Division. If you have administrative and social media marketing experience with a knack for natural resources, you should consider applying.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Help implement communication projects and strategies
  • Provide administrative support to the Forestry Communications Coordinator
  • Draft and edit internal and external communications material (e.g. social media posts, press releases, presentations, etc.)
  • Assist in creating and maintaining web content

 

Requirements and skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a relevant field (or currently enrolled in an above program at an accredited university) and an interest in broad natural resource topics including forestry, urban and community forestry, and fire.
  • Strong written, graphic/visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, strong work ethic, and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Proficiency in Canva or other graphic design software

 

Location: Missoula, MT

Pay Rate: $20-$25 DOE

Duration: No longer than 90 days 

Schedule: Flexible, variable hours (15-40 hours per week)
