Acting High School Principal

(Temporary Full-Time Leave Coverage, May-December 2024)

The Acting High School Principal is charged with implementing clear strategies centered on our guiding principles to support student achievement, character development, and teacher efficacy. Through language, actions, and decisions, the Acting Principal demonstrates the belief that all students can learn at a high level and maintains, through the complexities, minutiae and challenges of running a school, an unwavering focus on results. The Acting Principal oversees all aspects of the High School community, including student achievement; strategy and planning; standards; assessment and curriculum; management of excellent instruction; character education and discipline; and parent and community relations. Through a model of co-principalship prior to and immediately following the leave timeline, the Acting Principal will ensure continuity of programs and form strong relationships with students, staff and community members. With management and support from the Superintendent, the Acting Principal leads the school in ensuring each teacher executes the Guiding Principles, bringing urgency, rigor, preparation and joy to the classroom each day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with Superintendent, Executive Director of Innovation, Executive Director of Academics and members of the Curriculum and Professional Development team to ensure the quality of programming at ECHS is up to district standards
  • Provide leadership to all staff and students in a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented way
  • Support teachers developing competence in the curricula through modeling, observing, providing feedback, and supporting teacher reflection
  • Coach teachers to improve their instructional practices and classroom management techniques and work with Curriculum and PD Associate Directors to align efforts and increase impact.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute professional development for educators
  • Assist in the orientation of new and returning parents/guardians before the start of the school year to emphasize the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and students
  • Participate in recruitment, registration, and re-enrollment activities
  • Communicate positive successes of children to parents/guardians, and proactively reach out to parents/guardians as concerns, issues, or behaviors arise
  • Manage the student master scheduling process
  • Coordinate all school attendance procedures and systems which assist students’ daily attendance in order to improve their academic achievement
  • Coordinate collaborative partnerships with outside organizations that support student needs
  • Assist in coordination of extended student support services, including tutoring


Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching and leadership experience at the Secondary level required
  • Experience with High School Academies, magnet programs, or specialty high school programs preferred
  • Experience in Environmental Literacy curricula including sustainability and systems, social justice and equity, global citizenship, or environmental engineering and sustainable design preferred
  • Familiarity with charter schools and/or new school development
  • Experience leading adults required
  • Experience in the effective delivery of professional development required
  • Principal certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, Master’s degree preferred
