Piezoelectric Engineering Intern (Material Science)

The Microchip Frequency and Timing Systems business unit is a world leader in precise time solutions and sets the world's standard for time.  Our work produces, distributes, and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, and measurement industries.

Our Vectron group in Mount Holly Springs, PA, is a market leader specializing in Quartz Precision Oscillators and Frequency Control Solutions. We are seeking a current college student to fill an Intern role. This position is a fit for someone that enjoys technical achievement, cooperative research, never-ending chances to learn, and a friendly team environment. You will work alongside senior design engineers to develop the skills required to test, characterize, and launch new designs along with supporting existing designs in production. Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and execution of experiments related to piezoelectric processing, and characterization.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data, contributing to the development of innovative piezoelectric applications.
  • Support the team in maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate piezoelectric technology into new and existing products.
  • Engage in literature reviews and research to apply the latest advancements in material science to piezoelectric engineering.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate research findings to the team and stakeholders.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • A strong foundation in material science principles, particularly those relevant to Piezoelectric materials. Demonstrated interest in piezoelectric technology and its applications.
  • Basic experience with laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python) is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
