Court Navigator- Intern

As a Court Navigator, you will provide invaluable legal advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence navigating the PFA (Protection From Abuse) process through Mercer County courts. Your role will involve:

  • Accompanying adult victims through court proceedings via the AWARE Legal Advocacy program.
  • Conducting post-hearing debrief sessions with victims to identify next steps and address their needs.
  • Creating and implementing safety plans, including conducting danger assessments and determining eligibility for emergency housing.
  • Offering information and referrals as necessary to ensure victims have access to additional support services.
  • Completing all required paperwork and case management notes, accurately entering data into the ETO system.
  • Engaging in ongoing case management to ensure victims receive comprehensive support.

Hours: Volunteers must be available during courthouse hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The schedule is negotiable.

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must:

  • Be eligible for Act 33 and Act 34/FBI clearances.
  • Successfully complete the mandated training provided by AWARE.
  • Represent the agency positively to the public and professional community.
  • Adhere to a conservative business attire dress code while participating in the Legal Advocacy program.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and other events as directed.
