Field System Position

NVI, Inc is seeking scientist(s)/programmer(s) to maintain and support the VLBI Field System, and to work on the development of the next-generation Field System. Most of the work will be on site at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, USA. The position may require travel to domestic and/or foreign VLBI sites.

 

The Feld System is used around the world at VLBI stations to control antennas and equipment. The Field System consists of generic components common to all sites, and station specific components which depend on the hardware available at the site. The current version of the Field System is written in a combination of (mostly) C and Fortran. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the equipment at a typical VLBI site, and will have participated in taking VLBI measurements. In addition they must have experience in: a) Programming in a Linux environment; b) Data acquisition and control software in a near-real-time environment; c) Software with similar capabilities and complexities; d) Knowledge of modern programming languages, tools and techniques.   The ability to work independently, but also to take direction, is a must.

 

Eligibility is currently limited to:

·       U.S. Citizens;

·       U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR);

·       Foreign Nationals eligible for a H1-B, or E-3 or other visa that would allow them you to work in the U. S. 

·       Applicants for LPR, asylees, or refugees in the U.S. at the time of application with 1) a valid EAD card and 2) I-485 or I-589 forms in pending status

 

Relocation to the Washington DC area is a requirement. NVI will provide a relocation allowance.
