Genomic tech dev research assistant

Postgraduate Associate Position | The Hattie Chung Lab

The Hattie Chung Lab at the Yale School of Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Center pioneers experimental and computational methods to study the principles of cellular heterogeneity that underlie tissue function in health and disease. Our main goal is to understand how the coordination of cell signaling across time and space impacts tissue function, by developing novel single-cell and spatial genomics technologies and computational methods. Our applications span ovarian aging, cardiovascular disease, and drug response. For more information, please visit www.hattiechunglab.bio.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a postgraduate associate to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a graduating senior or a recent college graduate looking for a 2-year research experience before pursuing a Ph.D. or an M.D. The candidate will work on collaborative projects to develop and apply cutting-edge single-cell and spatial genomic assays to study the molecular basis for cellular heterogeneity and tissue organization in health and disease. Responsibilities include performing single-cell and spatial genomics assays, conducting and optimizing in situ staining techniques and flow cytometry, performing computational data analysis, and others. The candidate will also play a pivotal role in developing and shaping the new Chung Lab with opportunities to mentor undergraduate students.

Mentorship and Training

The postgraduate associate will attend weekly lab meetings and work collaboratively to apply the latest single-cell and spatial genomics techniques. They will also meet regularly with Dr. Chung and collaborators, present at group meetings, and attend seminars at Yale. The candidate will be mentored to make intellectual contributions to lab projects, including formulating experimental designs, which will be recognized accordingly with authorship of manuscripts.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a BA/BS degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioengineering, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of research experience in an experimental laboratory is required, which may include experience gained as an undergraduate. Experience in at least one of the following areas is preferred: next-generation sequencing, single-cell and/or spatial genomics technologies, histology, tissue culture, or microscopy. We seek candidates who are highly driven and self-motivated, have strong verbal and written communication skills, work well in a collaborative setting with professionalism, and have excellent organization skills with attention to detail.

How to Apply

Candidates should email Dr. Chung at hattie.chung@yale.edu with the subject line “Postgraduate associate position – [YOUR NAME]”.
