Research Assistant II - Human Immunology

The Research Assistant II works under minimal supervision of a Lab Manager or PI. Incumbents in these roles have learned the context and implications of the research program to apply and interpret theoretical knowledge necessary to conduct research in one or more scientific disciplines. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to project planning, experimental design, developing methodology, conducting procedures, modifying procedures as needed, data collection and analysis, contributing to publications and reports, and communication and instruction. Incumbents demonstrate and model effective mental concentration, visual attention, and manipulative skills. The Research Assistant II may assist in training others within or external to their assigned work area. Incumbents are required to work flexible shifts that may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays depending on the demands of the research and/or laboratory operations.


Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Identifies problems, troubleshoots and analyzes variations observed and reported in regular testing protocols; modifies, refines or adapts techniques and procedures; modifies and/or adjusts quality control measures.
  • Monitors documentation of results; reviews and recognizes documentation which may lead to modification and adaptation of research methodologies; may collaborate with others
  • Plans and monitors resources needed to operate the laboratory; maintains inventory control; coordinates space, field, equipment and/or facilities; may monitor expenditures.
  • Leads exchange of research information through demonstration and instruction.
  • Assists in grant writing and proposal development.
  • Conducts multiple experiments and is responsible for maintenance of equipment used in those experiments.
  • Is organized, responsible and reports results clearly and efficiently to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 3 – 6 years of directly related experience in a Laboratory setting.
  • Advanced mouse handling and husbandry skills required
  • Demonstrated ability in development of research protocol
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating and/or conducting multiple, concurrent assignments or a multi-faceted project
  • Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program
  • Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct
  • Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, demonstrated ability to manage details
  • Advanced computer skills, ability to develop technical documents and presentations
  • Demonstrated team player with professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible
  • Ability to work flexible shifts (evening/week-end/holiday)
  • Regular, reliable and consistent attendance


    Education Required: High School Diploma or GED
    Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
    Experience Required: 3 years
    Experience Preferred: 3 years

 

Pay Range: $44,937 - $58,418
