Position Title:    Dentist

 

Reports to:         Dental Director / Medical Director if there is no Dental Director

 

Classification:   Salary; exempt

 

Attendance at HIPAA and Compliance educational programs are a requirement of employment.

 

SUMMARY: 

 

The Dentist is responsible for providing preventive and primary dental care consistent with the dentist’s training and experience in a community health center setting to patients of Lifecare Family Health & Dental Center, Inc.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in compliance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  2. Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.  In addition, the Dentist shall complete referrals, and other paperwork as required from time to time. 
  3. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.  Provides precise information to enable the patients to make informed decisions regarding healthcare and related issues while ensuring joint responsibility with the health care team members and staff to promote the best possible outcome for the patient. 
  4. Actively participate in the Health Center’s Quality Improvement Program and other health center committees as assigned and attends monthly provider meetings. 
  5. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested.
  6. Travels when necessary to fulfill Lifecare FHDC’s needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent Lifecare FHDC and assists with seasonal programs as needed.
  7. Maintains and updates skills and knowledge to appropriate professional levels with continuing education courses and educational materials and utilizes on-going assessment skills. 
  8. Assures that all required paperwork is completed 
  9. Approves leaves of absences for dental staff.
  10. Adheres to the standards and policies of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG guidelines, other State and Federal laws).  This also includes reporting to the Board of Directors, Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, supervisor or suggestion box, any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
  11. Participates in recruitment/retention activities of Lifecare FHDC as necessary.
  12. Serves as a member of the Lifecare Family Health & Dental Center’s health care team that provides quality care to patients.
  13. Follows universal precautions.
  14. Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  15. Participates in planning and problem solving.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Graduate from an accredited dental school, required.
  2. Completion of an accredited general practice residency program, preferred.
  3. Obtain or have the ability to obtain OHAP permit. 
  4. Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges, required.
  5. Current CPR certification.
  6. Ohio DEA registration.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

  1. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  2. Knowledge of public health principles and practices.
  3. Ability to work with a culturally-diverse staff and patient population.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CCC management and medical staff members.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

  1. Must be willing to submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check if requested. 
  2. May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening. 
  3. Lifecare will provide Hepatitis A/B vaccinations; candidate may decline vaccinations in writing or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer. 
  4. A pre-employment background investigation may be required. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: 

 

Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with dental duties in a clinic office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis.  This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking.  The ability to sustain moderate physical activity, handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day is expected.  The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required. Working under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.
