Are you passionate about contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment? We're seeking a dynamic candidate to join the Criteria Pollutant Inventory Section at the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
Emission inventories are the foundation to the policy work at CARB by identifying what is being emitted into the air, by who, and where. It guides and provides the scientific basis for emissions control programs and tracking progress towards California’s numerous emission reduction efforts.
In this position, you'll be a vital partner to air quality planning, photochemical modeling, regulation development, community-level emissions reduction plans, and project-level assessments. Under direction of an Air Resources Supervisor I, you will be part of a diverse, technical, collaborative team to:
- develop, maintain and improve CARB’s emission inventories.
- coordinate within CARB and with air districts to improve the accuracy and reliability of emission estimates through rigorous quality assurance and quality control practices.
- partner with other CARB inventory teams to improve the public’s access to complete, user-friendly, and high-quality emissions data
- conduct emissions trend analyses and other assessments to determine the most appropriate socio-economic and demographic growth indicators to forecast emissions.
- serve as a key point of contact with local air pollution districts.
- design and implement database queries to extract and analyze vital information for making data-driven decisions.
- develop and present reports summarizing emission estimates and analysis to inform policy decisions
- establish and implement excellence in data management practices; and
- respond to public requests for emissions data.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
