Join us in our mission to combat climate change using novel next-gen technologies. CARB's Research Division has an opening for a Staff Air Pollution Specialist in the Integrated Measurements of Air Pollution Section (IMAPS). Projects led by this section utilize new technologies, including satellite and sub-orbital remote sensing, ground-based in-situ measurements, and computational modeling to inform our inventories and inform mitigation strategies. We seek a dynamic and passionate individual to act as communications coordinator for the California Methane Research Program, including coordination with subnational jurisdictions as part of the Subnational Methane Action Coalition.

The selected candidate will:

• Collaborate with stakeholders at subnational regulatory bodies and partner agencies within the State on use of satellite methane plume data. This will require creating outreach plans unique to each entity, initiating and maintaining contact, and working in tandem with Research Division management, CARB’s executive office, and CARB’s international liaison.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders on engagement with priority communities in California.
• Report on progress of utilizing satellite data as well as achievement in other jurisdictions
• Provide technical expertise and support to subnational entities implementing methane reduction projects.
• Perform technical analysis of data, including California methane data and methane data outside of California. This will include data engineering, time series analysis, and data classification.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required. 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
