Job Summary

This position exists to provide multi-media environmental assistance to Minnesota small businesses. Assistance topics include state and federal environmental regulations and ways businesses can go beyond regulations to improve their environmental stewardship. Assistance is proactive and reactive, direct and indirect.

This position shares responsibilities for MPCA’s small business environmental assistance helpline (telephone and email assistance) to provide one on one assistance to businesses. The position also develops and implements targeted sector, pollutant, geographic, or risk-based assistance projects. Relevant educational and marketing materials are developed and delivered to support assistance efforts, i.e. publications, webpages, postcards, letters, training content, etc. The position serves as project manager for grant projects, including project tracking and evaluation. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, sustainability, chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, environmental psychology degrees related to climate change or related field and two years of professional environmental experience.

OR

Three years professional-level sustainability and/or environmental protection experience.

AND the ability to:

Develop and implement work plans.

Independently complete assignments in a timely manner.

Understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures. 

Effectively coordinate and serve as a team member and understand the environmental, social and economic impacts of procurement.

Engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders and team members.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws, rules, regulations and standards.

Experience with air permitting, potential to emit methodologies and calculations, and state air quality issues is preferred.

Experience with wastewater, hazardous waste, stormwater, tank regulatory requirements, industrial and commercial processes and operations, environmental best management practices or pollution prevention issues is desired.

Experience working with diverse communities.

Exemplary customer service skills and abilities.

Experience working in teams and experience with conflict resolution

Physical Requirements

Work responsibilities of this position include touring industrial facilities, navigating ladders/ steps, and managing uneven surfaces.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
