Air Pollution Specialist

Are you ready to join a team at the forefront of cleaning up the existing medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (MHD) fleets and also transitioning to zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs)? CARB’s Mobile Source Control Division (MSCD) has an immediate opening for a motivated staff person in the Compliance Assistance and Outreach section. The Section provides an exciting work environment with highly motivated staff working at the cutting edge of MHD ZEV technology. The section provides regulatory and policy support to the agency through rule development, education and outreach, and stakeholder communication.

This staff person will develop expertise on MHD diesel regulations, MHD ZEV technology and regulations. The selected candidate will provide technical assistance to the industry, government agencies, NGOs and other external stakeholders. The selected candidate will conduct technical and policy analysis to understand existing policies, regulations and assist in developing new policies and regulations, as well as to develop educational and outreach materials based on these analyses. The Air Pollution Specialist will work with other CARB staff, industry, environmental and environmental justice organizations, government agencies and other non-governmental organizations to determine outreach and educational needs and methods.

Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.

Working Conditions

 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
