This job is for a research associate/assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen Shiao MD, PhD at the renowned Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  We are seeking a motivated and skilled scientist to contribute to our groundbreaking work in cancer research and cancer immunology. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a collaborative team dedicated to unraveling the complexities of cancer and developing innovative therapies.

Shiao Lab Focus:

The primary objective of the Shiao laboratory is to understand the spatial and functional relationship between cancer cells and the immune cells contained within the tumor microenvironment. By identifying pathways of resistance, we aim to develop novel therapies, particularly in the areas of breast cancer and brain tumors. We utilize single-cell and spatial single-cell transcriptomics, flow cytometry, and multiplex immunohistochemistry on preclinical models of cancer and specimens from clinical trials to address our questions.

Credentials and Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • A bachelor's degree (preferably with at least 1 year of previous lab experience).
  • Technical proficiency in cell culture and hands-on mouse work (s.c, i.v, i.p. injections). Previous experience in mouse work is preferred, but not required for this position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Strong collaborative and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience in flow cytometry, molecular biology, single-cell RNA sequencing and/or spatial transcriptomics is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

As a Research Assistant in the Shiao Lab, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about clinical trials and cutting edge scientific techniques
  • Organize and manage experiments in a dynamic environment.
  • Execute experiments and critically analyze the results under the supervision of the PI or other lab members.
  • Present data at lab meetings to contribute to scientific discussions.
  • Assist in drafting study protocols under the guidance of the PI.
