We are seeking a Senior Wetland Specialist to perform various analysis and design tasks related to wetlands delineations, flood hazard area analysis, and NJDEP permitting.

Job Description:

The right candidate will be adept at managing projects from proposal preparation to final reporting, ensuring timelines as well as objectives are met, and providing quality reporting to our clients. Experience is the key to this position in the Land Use sector of Environmental Consulting. You will be part of the senior consulting team that prides itself on professionalism, proficiency, and a collaborative working environment. Having experience in the field and the experience to mentor up-and-coming professionals is an integral part of this position. The candidate will also be required to perform environmental studies, complete fieldwork, and prepare documentation for permit applications and approvals to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the US Army Corps of Engineers. NJDEP permit involvements will likely include Freshwater Wetlands, Flood Hazard Area Control Act, and Coastal Program Permits (CAFRA, Coastal Wetlands, Waterfront Development). As a senior team member, you will manage complex projects but also guide project managers and environmental scientists, fostering a cohesive unit that thrives on knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic project oversight, including budgetary management and client interaction.
  • Lead and mentor a team of project managers and environmental scientists.
  • Prepare NJDEP and ACOE permit applications and Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Understand and implement Quality Assurance/ Quality Control procedures including critical reviews of work by junior staff members.
  • Conduct advanced wetlands delineations and flood hazard area analysis.
  • Consult with clients on permitting and development options.
  • Collaborate with the director of land use on reporting, proposal preparation, and other strategic tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with teammates and junior staff with various tasks including reporting and proposal preparation.
  • Negotiate and manage sub-contractor agreements.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience.
  • Rutgers Wetland Delineation Certificate or Professional Wetlands Scientist Certification (preferred).
  • Proficient with ArcGIS Pro software.
  • GIS Certifications (not required but preferred).
  • Knowledge with Deltek Ajera, and Deltek Vantagepoint (preferred)
  • Exceptional regulatory knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of NJDEP regulations and guidance documents.
