Substitute Farm Educator/Farm Manager/Vocational Staff - Kindle Farm School

A Vocational Educator Substitute is responsible for helping run a school-based farm program during the 2nd Quarter (45 days) of the academic school year. The Vocational Program is available to both High School and Middle School students. The educator will deliver a practical land-based curriculum to our students. The Kindle Farm School farming groups work on the farm, learning hands-on farm-based skills.

 

In the fall and early winter, you will instruct students on skills related to the woods management program; running a tractor, running a chain-saw, producing firewood, and maintaining the sugar stand. This can be tailored to some degree by the applicant’s skill set.

 

This job can turn into a fulltime support role at Kindle Farm if the applicant so desires.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Farming Educator/Farm manager cares for the potting shed(s), gardens and animals and all other farm concerns such as any food processing, greenhouse, haying, pastures, equipment, and structure maintenance.
  • Develop and facilitate curriculum lessons in farming, sustainable agriculture, and environmental education.
  • Manage paperwork associated with vocational work records and pay; as well as summer greenhouse sales.
  • Prepare programs through research, lesson plans, gathering materials, and evaluations.
  • Lead programs individually as well as co-instruct.
  • Teach/lead a different group of students from various programs for up to 5 days each week.
  • Ensure the health of the animals, gardens, and pastures.
  • Share cooperative chores related to the farm’s physical plant, including potting shed chores; and some group maintenance projects.
