Principal Polymer Scientist

JOB SUMMARY

The Luna Labs’ Materials Group is seeking a creative and versatile Principal Polymer Scientist to lead and conduct research that focuses on creating practical and novel solutions from our Blacksburg location. To be successful in this role, individuals should have applied knowledge and experience in polymer and nanocomposite materials for coating, adhesives, sealants, and reinforced composites, as well as strong proposal writing capabilities. Individuals in this role should also be comfortable with generating new ideas, identifying potential areas of opportunity, and project plan design and management. Additionally, customer and key partner relationship building and management, intellectual property and product commercialization strategy development, and transition to market planning (funding, commercial, licensing, transition to customer, etc.) are key responsibilities of this role, therefore initiative and a self-starter mindset are considered attributes of success in this role.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:

  • Ph.D. or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Polymer, or Materials Science
  • 5+ years in laboratory research, proposal writing, and program management 
  • Related expertise in paints/coating, polymers, and/or multifunctional composites
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation and communication development capabilities
  • Due to government contracting regulations, U.S. Citizenship is a firm requirement.
