Astronomy and Space Science Education Internship

Position Summary

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center is offering an internship opportunity to assist with astronomy and space science education, planetarium operation, and public education.

Working alongside planetarium staff, interns will learn to:

·        assist with presenting programs in the planetarium using industry technology

·        create presentations using planetarium specific software

·        assist with public astronomy education and programming outside of the planetarium

·        assist in updating astronomy shows with current mission news and astronomical research updates at age appropriate levels

Schedule & Duration

This internship will last one semester, with flexible start and end dates. Semesters are defined as September-December, January-May, May-August. Interns will work at least 1-2 days a week, Tuesday-Saturday, some evenings will be available. Please include your availability in the application.

Compensation

A stipend is available for this internship, and may also qualify for course credit.

Qualifications

Applicants should have coursework focused on astronomy,  education, science education or related field. 

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

A qualified intern will: adhere to Center policies including COVID-19 protocols, show initiative within the framework of the organization’s priorities, be able to work as part of a team, have the ability to prioritize tasks, have knowledge of computers and be comfortable working with them, have a strong interest in astronomy and space science education, be comfortable working with children and adults, and have a strong interest in engaging with the public on an individual and group level.
