Intervention Specialist

GCA Intervention Specialist:

Genoa Christian Academy, a growing, vibrant, Christian PK-12 chartered, nonpublic school located in Westerville, Ohio, is seeking candidates for the position of a full-time K-5th and/or 6th-12th Intervention Specialist for its current PK-12 school buildings. The current PK-12 grade enrollment is 640 students, with approximately 100 staff members. 

The Intervention Specialist is hired by and reports to the Superintendent, the Principal, and the Director of Intervention Services.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is required.

Obtain/maintain a valid Ohio Intervention Specialist license.

Be a born-again Christian who is growing in his/her relationship with Christ.

Adhere to the Statement of Faith of Genoa Christian Academy (found in GCA Handbook).

Maintain active membership in an evangelical church.

Continually seek ways to further his/her spiritual growth through regular church attendance, Bible studies, etc.

Demonstrate the qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, punctuality, organization, and professionalism.

Have a passion for serving God in the context of Christian education, and pray regularly for students, parents, and staff.

Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other faculty.

Demonstrate understanding and ability to teach students with multiple learning styles and abilities.      

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

The Intervention Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of Special Education/Intervention services and compliance, and may provide additional intervention to students not identified for Special Education/Intervention services as needed. Through word, conduct and attitude, the Intervention Specialist shall prayerfully and skillfully help students learn attitudes, skills and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature and responsible Christian men and women. 

The Intervention Specialist must be knowledgeable on all laws pertaining to Special Education/Intervention. It is the responsibility of the Intervention Specialist to ensure that all students identified with a disability are given the same learning opportunities as non-disabled students.

The Intervention Specialist will work closely with classroom teachers to ensure that student accommodations described in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) are followed. 

Additional duties:

Assess students’ individual needs based on the documentation provided, and through observation of students in the classroom.

Plan and deliver instruction to identified students in the classroom or intervention room, in small groups or 1-on-1 as needed to help students meet IEP goals.

Complete timesheets, track data and report to the state (JP/A Scholarship) in a timely manner.

Work with other districts to set up dates and times of meetings.

Track student progress toward IEP goals. 

Facilitate Testing Accommodations as needed.

Evaluate, interpret, and apply results from standardized achievement tests. 

Manage student behavior in accordance with GCA policies.

Make recommendations to teachers on ways to best meet the needs of students.

Proactively communicate with teachers and principals if students are not making the expected progress.

Meet compliance deadlines for IEPs and ETRs.

Establish effective working relationships with the students’ families to facilitate progress toward IEP goals.

Complete other related duties as assigned.
