Corrections Clerk
GENERAL SUMMARY
Union Affiliation: Represented by Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies Association, an affiliate of the Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) Union
The purpose of this job is to provide civilian clerical duties within the correctional facility, including but not limited to data entry, data processing, LEIN access, scheduling, interdepartmental communication, intra-agency communication, communications with the public, phone correspondence, property collection, and inventory, camera monitoring, inmate correspondence, building access control, emergency communications, and court document interpretation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process the booking and release of inmates into and out of the Kalamazoo County Jail facility. Inventory inmate's property and accurately document all belongings.
- Facilitate the scheduling of inmate meetings with outside professional organizations and inmate court appearances.
- Perform data entry of court documents, mail, inmate court, visitation schedules, inmate documentation, property adjustments, and classification listings.
- Monitor security cameras and facility speaker systems to communicate with jail staff and outside professional visitors within the jail.
- Provide customer service and support to individuals contacting the jail requesting information. Retrieve inmate information through various data management systems while maintaining confidentiality.
- Perform related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Previous experience in customer service and, or data entry is preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
