Reading Tutor AmeriCorps Service

Help provide a brighter future for kids in your community by joining Michigan Education Corps for the 2024-2025 school year!

As an interventionist, you’ll help students in kindergarten through third grade to become better readers using evidence-based, scripted interventions. With great training and onsite coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one or in small groups to help kids develop their reading skills and confidence! We are looking for people who have a desire to help kids succeed. Join the team that empowers Michigan kids to reach their highest level of academic achievement in reading and math.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Requires 5 days per week. Position starts 8/26/2024 and ends 5/31/2025 (part time positions also available).

Compensation/Benefits: living stipend of $1,243.55 biweekly (totaling $2,487.10 per month), education award of up to $5,176.50 that can be used to repay federal student loans or future education expenses; federal student loan forbearance. Health insurance and childcare assistance is available for full-time interventionists. Interventionists may elect to complete their Michigan Youth Development Associate (Mi-YDA) credential. Michigan Education Corps AmeriCorps members also have access to the Member Support Fund (up to $500 for emergency /unexpected expenses), affinity groups and workforce development/career pathway groups.


Minimum required qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older by your start date.
  • Must have at least a high school diploma or recognized equivalent by your start date.
  • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks.
  • Must not have served 4 or more prior terms of service with AmeriCorps State or National.
