Violence Prevention Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY

The Violence Prevention Analyst is responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to issues affecting community quality of life and other violence-prevention related issues.  The position will provide analytical support for research and evidence-based projects in the area of violence-prevention policy. 

 

Department:  Public Safety, Bureau of Administration

Salary:  $69,811 per year. 
 

Work Experience: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience directly related to statistical and/or policy analysis related to law enforcement, criminal justice, or violence prevention. 

Education/Training: The application must clearly show a Bachelor’s Degree from a fully accredited institution in Public Policy, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

 

POSITION DUTIES

Produces timely and organized information to assist the Department’s Office of Community Services & Violence Prevention in the mitigation of violent activity. 

Performs sophisticated analysis of specific incidents to aid in instituting strategic and tactical suppression and prevention activities.  

Uses data (both quantitative and qualitative) based information to prepare regular reports for Department leadership for use in making decisions and providing information to the public. 

Assesses and presents data necessary for making strategic planning recommendations regarding human resource deployment, resource allocation, and violence prevention. 

Researches and collects data needed to monitor trends, patterns and changes in population, technology, operating activities, crime and calls for service which impact quality and delivery of services to the community.  Uses parametric and non-parametric statistical methods to analyze such data and prepare in-depth and summary reports.  

Measures and forecasts long-term public safety related activities to contribute to problem solving, intervention and crime reduction efforts. 

Works with geographic databases in a computer mapping environment to produce analytical maps needed to examine the spatial occurrence of phenomenon. 

Assists in developing policy for improving public safety for community members and individuals with lived experience in violence-prevention work. 

Coordinates/collaborates with key stakeholders, both external and internal, working across various departments, engaging in tasks related to violence prevention and intervention policy. 

Engages local violence-prevention groups, raises their awareness of recent trends and informs groups regarding implementation of results-based strategies. 

Writes, researches and provides data analysis summary briefs and other substantive communications materials that explain and advocate for violence-prevention initiatives. 

Produces or coordinates production of mapping products, presentation graphics, and data extraction for use by City Departments. 

Maintains proficiency with GIS software and crime analysis, methods, tools and procedures to manipulate, analyze and present data. 

Acts as liaison and coordinates system activities with the Department of Innovation & Performance as necessary. 

Assists members of the Department, elected officials, and community members in obtaining data for which they have access. 

Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.

Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
