Patent and Trademark Associate

Job Summary:

Resilience, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the mental health of students, as well as reducing mass shootings, suicide, and depression. Resilience, Inc also works to combat declining test scores, low student engagement, and a slew of other social issues. 

  

Our organization focuses on offering Social Emotional Learning tools to enable K-12 schools to teach emotional intelligence through five core topics; self-awareness, self-control, social awareness, relationship management, goal setting, and effective decision-making. Resilience, Inc. also provides tools for acquiring and maintaining inspiration, hope, and overall well-being.

Resilience offers unpaid internship programs that require at least a 4 month commitment with a minimum of 5 hours per week. There are flexible start and end dates with the option to continue after meeting the minimum requirement

 

Although this is an unpaid internship, there is the opportunity to earn school credit. Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.


As a Patent and Trademark Associate at Resilience, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the protection and legality of intellectual property with regards to the AIMEE Project (Artificial Intelligence Mindfulness Enhancement Exercise). This position involves meticulous work in researching patents and trademarks; maintaining our policies and procedures; research compliance issues; and contributing to the overall safeguarding of the company's innovative assets.

 

Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Patent Research Assistance:
    • Assist in conducting patent research to support patentability assessments for inventions.
    • Work alongside senior associates to gather relevant information and organize research findings.
  • Trademark Support:
    • Support the trademark registration process by assisting in searches and documentation preparation.
    • Learn the fundamentals of trademark registration procedures.
  • Document Drafting:
    • Draft basic patent applications under the guidance of experienced professionals.
    • Assist in the preparation of responses to office actions.
  • Intellectual Property Counseling Support:
    • Contribute to providing basic legal advice to clients on intellectual property matters.
    • Gain exposure to client communication and interaction.
  • Office Action Responses:
    • Learn to prepare and file responses to patent and trademark office actions, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Portfolio Management Assistance:
    • Support the management and maintenance of patent and trademark portfolios, including tracking renewals and deadlines.
  • Legal Research Support:
    • Assist in legal research related to changes in patent and trademark law and procedures.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other team members to ensure effective and comprehensive legal services.

 

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Law, Intellectual Property, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in intellectual property law.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
