The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) seeks high-caliber Auditors to join our team.

What kind of work will I perform for the OIG?

Our auditors strive to make the DoD more efficient and effective by conducting sophisticated program and financial reviews and assessing the Department’s efforts to protect its information systems and data. Our reviews influence how the DoD spends tax dollars, runs its programs, and conducts its activities. As an Auditor, you will learn new skills and assume new responsibilities, such as:

  • Participating in and designing reviews of management operations.
  • Evaluating DoD activities to ensure that they are efficient, effective, and economical.
  • Briefing senior officials on complex issues.
  • Writing reports that identify management trends, improper practices, or recommended improvements.
  • Developing new ways to approach challenges within DoD programs or operations that maximize their effectiveness.
 
What skills does the OIG seek?
The OIG seeks professionals with strong experience or academic background who can demonstrate the ability to: 

  • Plan and execute work.
  • Evaluate key policy issues.
  • Compile, analyze, and summarize financial and operational data.
  • Analyze operational programs, and develop recommendations to senior management.
  • Write persuasively.
  • Brief senior officials on the status of projects, findings, and recommendations.
 
What are the basic requirements to be an Auditor with the OIG?
  • You must be a U.S. citizen and must have a degree in Auditing or in a related field, such as Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or Accounting, etc. To qualify as a Financial Auditor, this degree must include or be supplemented by 24 semester hours in Accounting or Auditing. (The 24 hours may include up to 6 semester hours in Business Law.) Performance Auditors qualify with a four year degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Public Administration, etc. It's desirable that any other four year degree include or be supplemented by substantial course work in auditing or accounting.

  • Resume - Please make updates to your resume to ensure it includes the following: where you worked, job title, series and grade (if applicable), duties and accomplishments, employer's name and address, supervisor's name and phone number, starting and end dates (Mo/Yr), hours per week and salary. PLEASE NOTE: Only the first 5 pages of resumes are reviewed.

  • Transcripts - Please provide a copy of your unofficial college transcripts. They must include name of accredited institution, grades earned, quarter or semester hours earned, and date degree conferred. If you are not yet graduated, please provide some sort of documentation showing your anticipated graduate date (most candidates get this from their college admin office).
