Who Are We?
Great Hearts Academies is a growing network of schools in Arizona, Louisiana and Texas. We currently provide over 25,000 K-12 students with access to a high quality, classical liberal arts education, without the barriers that often come with private prep schools. We gladly prepare our graduates for success in the best universities in the nation, but our main purpose is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind. We believe that the highest goal of education is to become good, intellectually and morally. Teaching certification is not required for general education, and we hire teachers from across all academic disciplines and departments.
Lead Teacher/Apprentice Teacher dynamic
In our K-5 classrooms, we have two teachers who work together to ensure each of our scholars are receiving what we truly believe to be the best education for all. In the simplest of terms, the Lead Teacher leads, while the Apprentice Teacher (AT) shepherds. This means that while each teacher has his or her own role, they must work well together as a united front. While many ATs prefer this role long term, they are continuously mentored by their Lead and encouraged to grow into the Lead role at their own pace (sometimes in the same year).
Requirements
Certification is not required to teach at any of the Great Hearts Academies. Great Hearts teachers hold a bachelor's degree or higher, demonstrate both a love for the breadth of the liberal arts, and a depth of knowledge in the subject area(s) they teach. All candidates must be able to demonstrate they are qualified to teach the subjects they are assigned.
