Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer

Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer

August Research Systems, Inc. (ARS) seeks an inquisitive, innovative scientist/engineer to join its research and development staff. Primarily engaged in the development of novel polymer systems to meet age-old and evolving challenges in aerospace, military, and industrial applications, ARS engages problems at the molecular level, seeking to understand and take advantage of structure-property relationships.

The Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer will work closely with senior engineering and technical staff to innovate, evaluate, refine, and optimize polymer systems and the processes required to fabricate them. From a foundation of understanding that pictures a polymer system on the molecular scale, the Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer will generate ideas for tailoring material properties or improving performance. The Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer will synthesize new material prototypes with care for reaction stoichiometries, solvation and compatibility, agitation, and temperature and pressure parameters. The Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer will characterize intermediate and cured polymer systems with such diagnostic techniques as dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, mechanical stress/strain testing, acid/base titration, viscometry, and electrical resistivity testing. And the Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer will develop, refine, and optimize processes for fabricating polymer composites and systems.

Assistant Research Chemist/Engineer qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, or chemical engineering; appreciation for and proficiency in effective communication, both written and verbal; ability to work in a collaborative team setting; attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills; U.S. citizenship, and eligibility to receive a U.S. Government security clearance.

ARS is a nationally recognized R&D asset for aerospace, military, and industry. It offers an attractive small-business work culture, a competitive benefits package, and rewarding salary and bonus incentives.
