Entry Level Autism Therapist

Nashoba Learning Group (NLG) is looking for motivated candidates to work with individuals with autism/ related disorders at our Young Adult Program! This rewarding career path allows you to gain experience with state-of-the-art teaching procedures while helping individuals with autism unlock their potential. NLG places a large emphasis on training and professional development for staff, prior experience is not required.

The Team Instructor provides direct services and behavioral support to program Members. These services include the delivery of programming utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our organization is designed to create career paths for staff through training and development. What is Nashoba Learning Group?
NLG was founded in 2002 to offer a different life trajectory for individuals with autism and their families. Our organization uses evidence-based teaching procedures, delivered by highly trained and supervised teaching staff, and customized for each individual in partnership with their family. Today NLG is able to provide outstanding, individualized education, training, and intervention services for over 170 individuals aged three to adult, who are from over 60 communities across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. NLG strives to enable individuals to achieve their potential and become productive members of society throughout their lives.

 

General job responsibilities/requirements for the positions include (but are not limited to):

A. The Team Instructor will provide direct services and behavioral support to individuals and/or groups of Members under the supervision of the Team/Clinical Leader. The Team Instructor reports to the Team/Clinical Leader and/or Program Director for administrative and/or behavioral issues.

B. The Team Instructor reports to work promptly at 8:30 a.m. The Team Instructor completes work at 4:00 p.m. or later as his/her responsibilities require. The Team Instructor participates in before and/or after-school training and meetings as needed (approximately 2 per month).

C. The Team Instructor is responsible for:

a. Providing customized programming and behavioral support to assigned individuals and/or groups of members according to the protocols established by the Team/Clinical Leader or Program Director. The Team Instructor will be trained on individuals and/or groups of Members’ programming, which will include all or some of the following categories; functional life and daily living skills, vocational skills, employment, recreation & community, social skills, and appropriate behavior.

b. Consistently collecting accurate data on the programming for the individual and/or groups of Members’ he/she is assigned to each day, including data required for the individual’s and group’s behavior protocols (frequency, antecedent-behavior-consequence, duration, etc.)

c. Taking groups of members on community outings and to volunteer and job sites, in their own personal vehicle when necessary, according to the objectives outlined in each member’s DHSP, ISP, and/or behavior plan (employees of NLG can submit for reimbursement for the number of miles they drive in their vehicles with a Member).

d. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all Members within NLG and while out in the community.

e. Ensuring that all materials used and the program room as a whole are left in a neat and orderly fashion at the end of each day.

f. Reporting any clinical issues that arise to the Team/Clinical Leader and reporting to the Program Director for administrative issues.

g. Working cooperatively with the other staff to execute all shared responsibilities

D. Staff in the Team Instructor position are given specific Members for which they will be responsible for the administrative aspect of their programming. They will be responsible for summing data previously collected and visually displaying that data through graphing. They will receive training on this from their Team/Clinical Leader and/or other Team Coordinators or Instructors. Additionally, the Team Instructor is responsible for filing data sheets and ensuring data sheets are printed and available each day

E. A Team/Clinical Leader will be the Mentor for the Team Instructor. The Mentor is responsible for guiding the Team Instructor through the ‘Development Checklist’ and ‘Responsibilities Checklist’. A Team Instructor is responsible for meeting with their Mentor at least once per month, in order to learn about the major processes, practices, and procedures of Nashoba Learning Group’s (NLG) Adult Program. All meetings will be tracked on the ‘Mentor/Mentee Meeting Log’ to ensure that both parties are meeting their responsibilities.

F. In addition to the meetings with their Mentor, the Team Instructor is responsible for attending additional monthly meetings set forth by the Program Director and/or Program Administrator.

     a. Attend training as assigned; maintain necessary certifications (CPR, First Aid, SOLVE, monthly training). NLG will provide any necessary trainings. 

     b. Attend Principles of Behavior training

G.The Team Instructor will follow the program’s emergency procedures whenever needed. Administering First Aid, CPR, or restraint as needed.

H. Ensuring that Members we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with NLG’s Human Rights Policy.

I. Performing all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.

Qualification/Education/Experience:
a. The Team Instructor will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field including psychology, education, special education, or a related field with preference being for individuals with a minimum of one year of experience in a training program for individuals with disabilities. As an alternative to a degree, a Team Instructor must have at least two years of demonstrated, related experience in providing direct services for individuals with disabilities.
b. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
c. Demonstrate strong oral and written skills (English proficiency) with members, families, funding sources, consultants, the community at large, program and administrative team.
d. Demonstrate an ability to work as a team and perform job duties with minimal supervisory intervention.
e. Must hold a valid driver’s license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport members.
f. Must pass CORI and background checks.
g. The Team Instructor will be physically capable of performing all job duties including keeping members safe in close proximity at all times and particularly during outings, safely implementing crisis prevention techniques, and restraining members in excess of 125 pounds when needed.

Job Type: Full-time / Part-time
Level: Entry
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4 PM (staff are able to leave at 3:30 if all work for the day is completed)

Pay:

  • High School or Equivalent – $45,000 - $49,000
  • Undergraduate Degree or Above - $50,000 - $52,000

License/Certification: Driver’s License (Required)
