Safety Coordinator

The Safety and Security Coordinator will manage the organizations safety and training programs. The Safety Coordinator will assist in ensuring a safe workplace and to ensure compliance with safety and health procedures and regulations. Also assist in developing and implementing appropriate safety and health management processes and systems at the site level and support functional objectives within the framework of Ohio Grating's core values. 
  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and training policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the safety programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Inspects fire extinguishers each month; inspects all other fire protection equipment to ensure the equipment is in proper working order.
  • Maintains files and documentation related to safety inspections and operations.
  • Oversees permit processes, issuing special permits for regulated activities such as enclosed space entry, welding operations (explosives), and transport of hazardous supplies and materials.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable government compliance regulations, which may include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Defense (DOD.
  • Accompanies agency staff such as staff conducting safety, fire, and physical audits, throughout the facility; assists with audit process as required.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization.
  • Prepares and implements departmental budget.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Required Skills/Abilities:

 
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.
  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
 
 
 

Education and Experience:

 
  • Associates degree EHS or Business Management required. Bachelors degree preferred.
  • At least five years of safety experience required.
  • Advanced training or certification in safety required.
  • OSHA certification required. 
 
 
 

Physical Requirements:

 
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
