Your Opportunity: Supervised, paid field experience in the Company’s corporate office related to food manufacturing, with a focus on regulatory food labeling and compliance. This internship is appropriate for Nutrition and Dietetics, Food and Environmental Nutrition, Food Science or other related majors. This position requires commuting to Orrville, Ohio with hybrid work arrangements throughout the school year and summer.
The student can expect to do one or more of the following:
Work with their manager to accomplish specific learning objectives that can be readily identified and reviewed periodically throughout the work period. Assist with, or have exposure to, a variety of food industry initiatives. Gain experience in various food labeling projects related to product commercialization. Build research and presentation skills for work-related projects on a variety of internal initiatives. Prepare and present a summary of the internship experience. Receive performance appraisals during the internship and an exit interview prior to the end of the internship.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create compliant nutrition and ingredient data for food labels based on applicable food labeling regulations.
- Review a variety of food labels for technical regulatory compliance.
- Assist in setting up items and ingredients in a specification management system.
- Enter data for customer and consumer facing systems.
- Attend team meetings and interact with cross-functional departments.
- Assist with various tasks as needed by Pet Regulatory.
- Complete special projects related to Regulatory functions and industry initiatives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree in related field.
- Completion of, or currently taking a food regulations course is ideal.
- Available to work 15-20 hours weekly during school year.
- Available to work 40 hours weekly for a minimum of 12 weeks during summer.
- Excellent academic performance record.
- Strong communication, teamwork and critical thinking skills.
- Organized, detail oriented and willingness to learn.
- Receptive to driving continuous improvement through ongoing coaching and feedback.
