The Akron Board of Education announces an anticipated opening for a Music Teacher, Job Code 006, TS 380 (190 days). Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA. This position is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Valid Ohio K-12 Music licensure.

Desired: Experience in and commitment to working with urban school students, and regional professionals in a multicultural setting to produce high-quality artistic experiences Strong belief in the concept of integrating arts and academics Evidence of successful teaching in small and large ensembles settings Demonstrates organizational skills Willingness to attend summer in-service program prior to opening of school.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Plans a program of study that meets the students’ needs and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of building administrator Assumes responsibility for music instruction in an individual, small group ensembles, large group ensembles, and classroom situation Develops, in collaboration with administration, reasonable rules for classroom/performance behaviors and procedures Plans and provides written evidence of program preparation upon request from administration Creates an environment that is conducive to learning Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required Collaboratively develops and monitors student achievement Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations Accepts responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned Strives to maintain and improve professional competence Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required Works cooperatively with parent and community arts support groups Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner Collaborates with the other music specialists and classroom teachers to develop interdisciplinary units Serves as a music resource person to classroom teachers Works with the other music specialists on school-wide programs and projects Demonstrates computer skills germane to choral music activities and technical skills in use of audio equipment and, Participates in appropriate staff development Assists in procuring community/business partnerships Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations Accepts responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned Strives to maintain and improve professional competence Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required Reports to and carries out any other responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator.
