2023/2024 - HS or MS Teacher/Coach

Job Title:                   High and Middle School Coach

General Position Summary:  The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth schools’ coaches perseveres to educate and to form students and their families in the Catholic intellectual and moral tradition anchored by faith and right reason. It is in this endeavor that students and their families come to know and to love the true, the beautiful, and the good of God’s created order as known through reason and revealed fully in Jesus Christ.
The Catholic School coach fulfills this mission by modeling for their students physical and moral excellence and engaging them in the pursuit of virtue. The individual coaches cultivate virtue in the human body and soul through athletic training, competition, and Christian fellowship.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to the Gospel by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and all policies of the Diocese and Schools
  • Exemplifies professionalism and virtue and forms students in virtue through positive behavioral management, consistent procedures, and just discipline.
  • Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives and provide appropriate materials and resources for students to engage in learning.
  • Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy.
  • Proactively communicates with parents regarding performance, behavioral, or safety concerns.
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the diocese and school administration.
  • Follow and maintain an established work schedule ensuring availability, as needed, to the school, students, and staff.
  • Conducts, schedules, and monitor practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policy and league regulations.
  • Verifies and monitor student physical condition, injuries, and eligibility to practice and participate by completion of physicals, release/hold harmless, and registration.
  • Teach essential safety skills and follow diocesan policies regarding academic eligibility, safety guidelines, and transportation rules.
  • Ensures that emergency contact information is available at practices/games. Distributes and collects all athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Teaches, instructs, and imparts knowledge to student athletes of the relevant skills, tactics, and techniques of the sport as a duty of the coaching position.
  • Communicates with Athletic Director regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym use.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, committees, etc. as assigned.

  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the school community and support instructional planning.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs.
  • Able to instruct athletes about proper strategy, skills, and rules of the game.
  • Able to motivate student athletes to perform optimally as an individual athlete and team member.
  • Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct.
  • Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming.
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner.
 
Supervision Given and/or Received:
  • Reports directly to the Athletic Director
 
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
  • Required to work some nights and weekends.
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress.
  • Required to teach an assigned schedule.
  • Required to maintain composure and a professional attitude in all situations at all times.
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily.
  • Required to lift or carry athletic equipment and supplies to a minimum of thirty-five pounds.
  • Required to work in standard gym, field, and school conditions.
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal travel, as needed by automobile or bus, maybe required throughout the school year for school sponsored activities.
 
Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Meets the minimum requirements for coaching field as set forth by the Diocese.
  • Current CPR certification and first aid training
 
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church 
  • Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation in target languages. 
  • Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior 
  • Able to manage student behavior in practice games and classroom setting. 
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Able to work well with others in the school community. 
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Skill in motivating and engaging student athletes in the learning process.
  • Skill in critical thinking, planning, organizing, and relating information in an understandable format.
