Crisis Intervention Specialist

Department: Crisis Intervention Services
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or related field. Must have minimum licensure of LSW or LPC, LISW or LPCC preferred.
Experience: 5-7 years clinical work experience in a community or inpatient behavioral health setting preferred. Experience in risk assessment, crisis intervention services, and AOD assessment preferred.
Qualifications: Must be able to work within a multidisciplinary clinical team to provide crisis services to the general community as well as to consumers with severe and persistent mental illness. Needs to have the ability to develop and implement plans of care constant with the needs of the consumer while protecting the safety and security of the community. Able to provide consultation and guidance to outside resources to ensure appropriate linkages and referrals for individuals in the community. Shall posses leadership qualities to build and manage relationships with community agencies, mental health boards, physicians, hospitals, law enforcement, and consumer advocacy groups Maintains working knowledge of treatment options in the community. Able to work with diverse and complex situations, able to multitask, be flexible, adaptable, organized, and effective in planning skills. Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide education to the community through public speaking. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel). Must have a valid driver’s license.

Position Summary: Provides crisis intervention services for children and adults during agency hours. Actively participates in the screening of individuals requesting services and works collaboratively as a member of the agency admissions committee. Facilitates referrals for care, provides crisis intervention and crisis assessment face to face and through phone communication. Works with family/ significant others involved with the identified client to help educate and support those people in understanding the clinical needs of the client and engage them in care planning when appropriate. Provides pre-hospitalization screening and facilitates admissions when clinically indicated. Provides follow-up services from night/ weekend emergency personnel to ensure needed services are secured. Tracks clients progress and status once admitted to time of discharge from in patient settings. Provides education to the community about emergency services and crisis intervention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
I. Direct Care:
A. Provide direct care to consumers in crisis through phone screening and face to face assessments.
B. Develop and implement clinical interventions for consumers in crisis.
C. Provide pre-hospitalization screening to client in crisis.
D. Provide follow up counseling services post crisis.
E. Screen individuals who are requesting ongoing outpatient services from the agency.
F. Make referrals to appropriate agencies and treatment providers for consumers.
G. Collaborate with community agencies and care teams developed to target high risk clients.
H. Engage in consultation with outside professionals to develop and carry out appropriate care plans.
I. Provide information and referral to consumers, other agencies and professionals in the community.
J. Demonstrate model fidelity when implementing evidence based practices.
K. Maintain accurate data in databases designed to track client status and resource utilization.
L. Generate reports as requested.
M. Attend professional development in-services and continuing education as required by agency policy as well as professional licensure standards.
N. Actively participate in Quality Improvement activities as requested.
II. Community Liaison:
A. Assist the Clinical Director, Crisis Intervention Coordinator, and CEO in working with agencies, police departments, hospitals and other referral sources to resolve any conflicts that arise in the provision of services to clients.
B. Track client progress/ status once admitted to an inpatient setting and assist hospitals in discharge planning as appropriate.
C. Participate in providing trainings on crisis intervention and agency crisis services for police departments, hospitals, schools, and other agencies to increase awareness and coordination as well as build partnerships as requested by the Clinical Director or CEO.
D. Work with the administration of the agency in assessing needs of the community and developing programming/ services to meet those needs.
III. General:
A. Attend agency, department, staff, and supervision meetings.
B. Maintain accurate data in databases designed to track client status and resource utilization.
C. Generate reports as requested.
D. Attend professional development in-services and continuing education as required by agency policy as well as professional licensure standards.
E. Abide by agency policy and procedures.
F. Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation accurately and in a thorough manner. Turn in all paperwork, clinical or otherwise, within timeframes set by agency policy or the department supervisor.
G. Actively participate in Quality Improvement activities as requested.
H. Demonstrate respect for the individuality and diversity of the consumers served by the agency.
I. Maintain a high level of professionalism, ethical practice, and cooperative spirit in working with fellow staff, clients, and other professionals in the community.
The above listed responsibilities are not intended to be all inclusive and do not exclude any other functions customarily performed by an Crisis Intervention Services Therapist which may from time to time be requested by the immediate supervisor or the CEO. Work schedules may vary according to the need of the agency.
Work Environment: Services are to be rendered at the agency, local hospitals, jails, juvenile detention center, and schools. Other service delivery sites will be determined on a case by case basis.
Physical Demands: While performing the essential duties of this job, an employee is regularly required to move about; communicate, convey and engage in conversation/discussion; and operate standard office equipment; write /create documentation; detect, recognize, perceive, and observe.
