Position Summary:
Fitness Managers oversee the operation of wellness service offerings such as: Physical Fitness Assessments, Balance and Posture Assessments, Body Composition Tests, and Exercise Program Design. In addition to wellness services, Fitness Managers oversee fitness & wellness programs throughout the year. Finally, Fitness Managers are responsible for preventative maintenance of equipment. 

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • All fitness specific duties that fall under the position of Fitness Managers 
  • Assists professional staff with hiring, training, and developing Fitness Managers during the processes of application review, interviewing, onboarding, and daily shifts.  
  • Be knowledgeable on available wellness services (EPD, PFA, Training, Group Ex., etc.)  
  • Assists professional staff with training of new Fitness Leaders by assisting with in-service agenda creation, staff training sessions, fitness floor checklists, and administration of pre/post-tests  
  • Attend and lead delegated segments in staff meetings  
  • Conduct Wellness Service Offerings 
  • Coordinates emergency procedures for the fitness area   
  • Motivate and delegate assignments and tasks to fellow fitness staff  
  • Provide building tours and equipment orientation tours as requested   
  • Enforces SRWC policies while maintaining professionalism  
  • Report incidents to professional staff accordingly  
  • Displays proficiency in the operation of basic computer skills as well as CSI, Brightspace, and Connect2, Microsoft Office software   
  • Conducts special programming events 
  • Assume all other duties and projects assigned 

Qualifications:
Must be an eligible full-time or part-time student at The University of Akron for the duration of the semester in which you are employed. 
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and will obtain a BLS certification if needed. 
  • Knowledge of Student Recreation and Wellness Services general policies and procedures, including both the fitness floor and wellness suite services (EPD, PFA, Training, Group Ex., etc.) 
  • Demonstrated knowledge proper equipment usage and exercise techniques 
  • Must possess the following qualities:  
  • Leadership (modeling, delegation, inclusive, etc.) 
  • Approachable and professional 
  • Strong interpersonal skills (listening & conflict resolution)
  • Team Player
