Reports To: Manager, Informal Recreation & Facilities

Position Summary:
Operations Supervisors are the lead person responsible for management and supervision of all SRWS facilities, including the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC), rental support of Buchtel Field and Central Hower Gymnasium, and assistance with Ocasek Natatorium (ONAT). The Operations Supervisor serves as a leader and role model for SRWS student employees by demonstrating professionalism, a risk management mindset, and exceptional customer service. Operations Supervisors must be ready to respond to all building emergencies and provide appropriate care for patrons, teach and support SRWS Student Employees, and complete detailed documentation. Operations Supervisors are to perform job duties independently and utilize professional staff support as needed.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and uphold all SRWS policies and procedures
  • Respond to all medical and non-medical emergencies
  • Oversee and delegate responsibilities to a 4-6 person staff
  • Responsible for offering outstanding customer service
  • Ensure that all risk management measures have been taken
  • Assist in the evaluation of student staff
  • Troubleshoot Spectrum CSI, Microsoft Teams, and When to Work issues/questions for student staff
  • Assist in the interviewing and training of new student staff
  • Continually monitor all facility activity and program areas
  • Responsible for cleanliness and organization of entire facility
  • Document participation count for each activity area
  • Setup for rentals and special events as needed
  • Ensure the cash handling practices are accurate
  • Completion of all Incident and Accident reports as necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings hosted by the SRWS department.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

To apply for the Operations Supervisor position, the student must:

  • Be in good standing with the University and the Department
  • Have worked for the Rec for at least one (1) semester OR have previously held a management position
  • Exhibit strong communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills
  • Be confident in abilities as an employee, and a desire to develop as a student leader
  • Possess solid knowledge about policies and procedures, and be comfortable in emergency situations
  • Display initiative, and an ability to think critically when making decisions or solving problems

Upon hire as a Operations Supervisor, the student must:

  • Complete the Supervisor In-Training Program
  • Obtain Basic Life Support CPR/AED + First Aid Training
  • Hold at least three (3) regularly scheduled Supervisor shifts per week during each semester, as needed
  • At least two shifts must include an opening and/or closing shift
  • Attend all Supervisor meetings
  • Lead assigned topics and skill sessions at Informal Recreation all-staff in-services
  • Be knowledgeable and able to perform the key job duties at the front desk and on the fitness floor


All University of Akron student employees must meet the designated minimum standards as stated on the Student Employment Eligibility Chart. UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
