Technical Writer

Automotive Technical Writer

Position Description
Playing a key role in our product development process, the Automotive Technical Writer first and foremost communicates the “how” and “why” behind our products’ function and installation. Our ideal candidate for this position will possess a positive attitude, a trained eye for detail, strong automotive/mechanical and writing skills, and a passion to positively impact change within the organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are an absolute must-have, along with a proven ability to follow instructions and work in a collaborative team environment. Candidates must be able to organize, prioritize, and accomplish different types of work in an effective and organized manner while maintaining a positive, upbeat attitude. This is a full-time opportunity within our Wadsworth, Ohio facility.

Responsibilities
  • Work with engineering and product teams to understand the purpose, features, and installation of products
  • Research proper manufacturer installation processes and specifications prior to installation
  • Install, test fit, and evaluate new and existing products and provide feedback on the fit, finish, and functionality of the product
  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure we are developing industry-leading products
  • During the installation of products, capture photos that highlight the step-by-step installation process
  • Create customer-facing installation instructions in a way that speaks to readers of all skill levels
  • Create in-house assembly, inspection, and packaging documentation
  • Coordinate with in-house photography team to have photos/videos of the product captured for marketing purposes
  • Assist in the coordination of sourcing, pickup, drop off, and delivery of customer vehicles 
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and R&D facilities

Requirements
  • Eager to learn, teachable, and consistently seeking new knowledge and growth opportunities
  • Acute attention to detail with the constant drive to raise the bar
  • 3+ years experience in general automotive repair and maintenance
  • Intimate, hands-on understanding of steering, suspension, braking, exhaust, turbo/supercharger, engine, and drivetrain systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of owning and managing many projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated team player, with the ability to identify tasks without constant supervision 
  • Willingness to seek guidance when needed
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission
  • High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth European automotive knowledge (BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, MINI, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz)
  • 3+ years experience in engine management diagnosis/repair 
  • 2+ years experience in automotive control modules, electrical systems, and wiring
  • Successful completion of an automotive technician education (ASE, UTI, UNOH, etc.)
  • Experience with AP English language and composition
  • Hands-on experience with DSLR camera and related equipment
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Solidworks suites
  • A charismatic personality that is comfortable explaining and performing repairs in front of a virtual audience including being on camera for social media and other video projects
