Position Summary:
The Rock Wall attendant is responsible for supervising the rock wall area to ensure all risk management policies and procedures are followed by all guests and patrons who use the rock wall area and participate in rock wall programming.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain professionalism and represent The University of Akron in a positive manner
  • Understand and demonstrate proficiency in all climbing wall policies and procedures
  • Supervise the climbing wall area to ensure all risk management policies and procedures are being followed by patrons at all times
  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all patrons
  • Maintain positive working relationships and effective communication with patrons, co-workers and professional staff
  • Understand and implement SRWS emergency protocol and procedures (BERP) as needed
  • Provide first aid to appropriate level of training in emergency situations
  • Belay for patrons
  • Assist with rock wall area management including climber registration, equipment management and tracking, record keeping, and paperwork processing
  • Assist with rock wall area housekeeping including vacuuming and cleaning
  • Work special event programs including late night events
  • Attend all in-services and complete all required trainings
  • Inspect climbing equipment daily and inform OA Manager of any damaged or questionable gear
  • Develop a basic understanding of all program areas of SRWS
  • Promote the Outdoor Adventure program (rock wall, trips, clinics, rentals)
  • Assume all other duties and projects as assigned
 Additional Duties and Responsibilities as Approved by OA Manager:
  • Administer basic climber skills assessment
  • Teach introductory top rope belay classes
  • Teach introductory lead climbing classes
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Assist with route setting
