Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Marketing and Informal Recreation, the Marketing Assistant serves as a Marketing team member in graphic design, photography, video and social media. Duties include communicating daily updates to necessary staff, control equipment and supplies, work to ensure a safe environment for all, and be a leader within the program and department of Student Recreation and Wellness services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Junior and Senior level student in Graphic Design, Photography, Videography or Marketing.
  • Produce posters, flyers, brochures, web banners and other promotional materials for the department.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director, Marketing & Informal Recreation and other marketing assistants.
  • Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and regarding arrangement; size, font, style, and related aesthetic concepts.
  • Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout(s).
  • Strong attention to detail, with exceptional editing and communication skills.
  • Create Social Media content.
  • Strong understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and specifically; Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of Canva program for Social Media content.
  • Willingness to be open to learning and growing.
  • Maintains high standards for work areas.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Manages and communicates schedule and show up for scheduled shift on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director, Marketing & Informal Recreation.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a full-time student in Graphic Design, Photography and/or Marketing at The University of Akron for the duration of the semester(s) in which you are employed:
  • 12 credit hours for undergraduate students
  • 9 credit hours for graduate students
  • Cannot exceed 29 hours of on-campus work each week
  • Organizational and management skills as they relate to direct job duties.
  • A strong working knowledge and understanding of graphic design and marketing.

Hours Scheduled:
  • Approximately 3 - 10 hours per week

UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
