Reports To: Manager, Informal Recreation & Facilities

Position Summary:
The Facility Assistant is responsible for monitoring patron access to the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC), enforce the policies and procedures of the SRWC, maintaining a safe environment, taking an active role in the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the exercise floor, and providing quality customer service. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate strong customer service to all of our patrons
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patrons
  • Monitor patron flow in and out of the facilities including proper check in procedures
  • Oversee all daily equipment rentals
  • Become proficient in and enforce all policies, procedures, guidelines of the SRWC in a firm, fair and consistent manner when applicable. Customer service is never compromised
  • Adhere to all University of Akron and SRWS policies
  • Maintain positive communication skills with all peers, superiors and employees
  • Assist with game rotation on courts
  • Support day-to-day operations and event set-up/tear-down
  • Respond appropriately with Building Emergency Response Protocol (BERP) and report as required
  • Provide feedback in a constructive manner and document any concerns for supervisors
  • Assist with area setup and equipment inventory
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings and trainings
  • Show up for all assigned shifts on time and in uniform
  • Engage students in a manner that enhances their ability to be successful, adding to the campus experience and representing The University of Akron to the highest standards

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least a half-time student at The University of Akron for the duration of the semester in which you are employed.
  • 9+ credit hours for undergraduate students
  • 6+ credit hours for graduate students
  • Cannot exceed 29 hours of on-campus work each week
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (can be attained upon employment)
  • Organizational and management skills as they relate to writing reports and completing paperwork
  • A strong working knowledge and understanding of SRWS Departmental policies and procedures
  • Successful completion of training program (upon hiring)
  • Hours Scheduled: Approximately 8 - 25 hours per week

All University of Akron student employees must meet the designated minimum standards as stated on the Student Employment Eligibility Chart. UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
