Akron Sports Marketing Gameday Crew Member

THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS SEEKS QUALIFIED APPLICANTS TO JOIN US AS A GAMEDAY MARKETING CREW MEMBER FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR.

The University of Akron Department of Athletics is looking for hardworking, dedicated individuals who are interested in a career in sports marketing and would like to be a part of the 2018-19 Gameday Marketing Crew Member program. This position provides an introduction toward a career in athletic marketing and promotions and will benefit the student in his or her overall understanding of sports marketing and administration. This position will focus mainly on events with limited office hours and is not eligible for course credit.

Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, with 75% of these being evenings, weekends, and holidays, if needed. Crew members can expect to work athletic home games, special events, and external events. Crew members are required to work all 6 home football games and complete 3-5 office hours per week.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the implementation of gameday promotions including on-court/field and in-game promotions, music, game production scripts, etc.
• Participating in grassroots marketing to engage, create buzz, and a general awareness of athletic events in the community and on campus.
• Assisting with the implementation of the annual marketing plans for assigned sports programs with a focus on increasing attendance and game atmosphere in order to generate revenue.
• Managing public address announcers, coordinating music, video board elements, cheer squad, pep band, and other marketing needs to direct the flow of games, events, and promotions as needed.
• Working ZipsFest prior to each home football game and select special events including Zips Jam.
• Fulfilling sponsored elements such as logo exposure, PA announcements, promotions, and events.
• Attending required weekly office hours (3-5 per week).

Requirements:
• Undergraduate or Graduate student in good standing with the University.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Services (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) preferred.
• The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and passion for working as a member of a team in the athletic arena.
• Be willing to work nights, weekends, and during academic breaks as required by the game schedules.

This is a paid internship. Crew members will be paid $30 per sporting event and $40 per football game. Crew members can expect to work on average 2 sporting events per week. We expect to hire 10-12 crew members for the fall and spring semesters.
