Data Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Collect, validate, clean and prepare data from agency databases, spreadsheets and other systems
  • Write SQL queries to pull, join and summarize data for regular and ad hoc reporting
  • Build and maintain automated dashboards and visualizations in Power BI or Tableau
  • Analyze data for trends, patterns and anomalies, and present findings in plain language
  • Prepare recurring performance, quality and compliance reports, including federal and state grant reporting
  • Answer ad hoc data requests from program managers and leadership
  • Document data definitions, sources and reporting processes
  • Support data governance work with the state technology office: data integrity, security and confidentiality
  • Review workflows and reporting processes and recommend improvements

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics or a related field
  • 1 to 2 years of professional experience in data analysis, reporting or business intelligence
  • Working SQL skills (queries, joins, aggregations)
  • Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data cleanup)
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI or Tableau
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication

Preferred qualifications

  • Python, R or SAS for analysis
  • Microsoft Access, SharePoint or relational database design
  • Experience with government, public health or social services data
  • Familiarity with data privacy and confidentiality standards
