Nuhop Camp Staff Summer 2027

Summer Dates: June 1 – July 31, 2027
Scheduled Week Off: July 4–9, 2027
Location: Perrysville, Ohio

Camp Nuhop is seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and dependable individuals to join our Summer 2027 team! For more than 50 years, Camp Nuhop has provided residential summer camp experiences for children and young adults with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and other social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Our programs use outdoor adventure, experiential learning, and the camp community to help campers build confidence, independence, social skills, coping skills, and meaningful connections.

Working at Camp Nuhop is much more than a traditional summer job. Staff gain hands-on experience working with children and young adults with diverse learning and behavioral needs. 

Counselor responsibilities include: 

  • Being a positive facilitator to a small group of campers
  • participating in traditional camp activities with campers (camping, hiking, canoeing) 
  • Providing encouragement, structure, and positive reinforcement to all campers
  • Planning and implementing weekly activities 
  • Attending staff training sessions on behavior management, emergency procedures, and other skills
  • Creating a safe, inclusive environment physically and emotionally for campers and co-workers  
  • Communicating effectively with camper guardians about the week via: camper logs and  end of the week awards.

Commitment

  • Staff should be available for the full summer season: June 1 – July 31, 2027 (Staff will have a scheduled break July 4–9, providing a full week away from camp during the summer season.)
  • living on site while camp is in session and having some overnight responsibilities. 

Who We're Looking For:

  • patient, flexible, energetic, responsible, and genuinely interested in helping our campers succeed. 
  • Previous camp experience is helpful but is not required
  • An interest or educational background in the populations we serve
  • People that enjoy the outdoors and recreational activities. 
  • Leaders that will take initiative or collaborate with others to accomplish tasks
