Sales Intern, New Business Development


Location:  The role is located in Lincolnshire, IL (north of Chicago).  This role requires the employee to work fully onsite.

Hourly Rate:  $24.00 

This temporary position is not eligible for benefits.

 

Kubota is the leading manufacturer of compact, multi-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engines that now go up to 300 HP. Kubota Engine America Corporation (KEA) oversees the sale of engines, generators and service parts.

 

Job Description Summary

The Sales Intern, New Business Development, supports KEA’s commercial growth initiatives by assisting Sales Managers with daily sales and business development activities. This role provides exposure to Kubota’s off-road industrial engine market with market research, competitive analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration. The intern will contribute to lead qualification, data analysis, trade show preparation, and the development of sales materials that support KEA’s strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

-         Market Research: Conduct research on OEMs, competitors, industry trends, and emerging applications for Kubota engines. Summarize & enter findings into actionable briefs and NBD databases.

-         OEM Intelligence Gathering: Compile profiles on target OEMs, including product lines, engine usage, and competitive positioning.

-         Trade Show Preparation: Exhibitor research, OEM mapping, attend the trade show, and follow‑up documentation for exhibition shows. 

-         Data Analysis: Support analysis of sales data, pricing comparisons, competitor engine specifications, and market sizing using Excel and Power BI.

-         Lead Qualification: Assist NBD sales managers in screening new OEM leads, evaluating fit, and preparing initial opportunity summaries for the NBD pipeline.

-         Presentation Development: Create slides, visuals, and summaries for internal and external meetings (executive‑ready formatting).

-         Meeting Support: Prepare agendas, capture minutes, and track follow‑ups for internal and OEM meetings.

-         Cross‑Functional Coordination: Interface with the following teams: NBD, sales, application engineering to gather information and support ongoing projects.

-         Support KEA NBD Sales Managers with their assigned daily work activities

-         Communicate, organize, and maintain confidential information and material

-         Support co-workers in other departments as needed

-         Inform Manager of all noteworthy activities

-         Follow safety guidelines and department and corporate policies and procedures

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-      Strong desire to succeed in sales 

-         Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal (Spanish is a bonus)

-         Ability to comprehend a variety of instructions, both oral and written

-         Ability to communicate in a professional manner 

-         Ability to put together and construct professional power point presentations

-         Superior written and verbal communication skills 

-         Have a working knowledge of Word and Excel.

-         Some business travel may be required, expect to travel on overnight stays on an as needed basis

-         Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

-         Excellent presentation as well as oral and written communication skills 

-         Excellent analytical skills

Education and Training

-         College major in business and/or engineering or industrial technology

Physical Demands

-         Sitting for long periods of time with some walking, stooping, bending, and reaching

-         Dexterity to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists

-         Movement by holding, turning, and grasping objects

-      Reaching and extending hands in any direction

-         Feeling temperature, shape or texture by means of senses in skin

-         Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds

-         Ability to see more than 20 feet

-         Ability to hear normal conversations on phone or in person

-         Ability to see color and see/read computer screen

Work Environment

-         Work is performed in an office environment; no housing or transportation will be provided

-         Noise level is moderate.

-         Office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday

-         Limited exposure to the warehouse.  Limited exposure to temperature variations when shipping doors are open
