Procurement Intern – Summer 2027

Location: Indianapolis, IN

This role requires associates to be in-office 5 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance.

Depending on placement, the Procurement Intern will gain cross-functional experience supporting Vendor Management, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Supplier Risk, Procurement Data Analytics, IT Sourcing, Health Services Sourcing, or Procurement Finance. The intern will contribute across the supplier lifecycle and procure-to-pay activities, including sourcing research, supplier evaluation and selection, contracting and invoice processes, risk and performance monitoring, strategic supplier relationship management, data analysis and reporting, issue resolution, presentations, and process improvement. Working with business leaders and suppliers, the intern will apply analytics, automation, AI, and problem-solving skills to improve efficient, compliant procurement operations within a complex Fortune 20 healthcare organization.

 

This position is a full-time, 12-week paid internship (Monday May 17th, 2027 – Friday August 6th, 2027) program in alignment with our Enterprise-wide Summer Internship program.
 

How you will make an impact depending on your placement within the Procurement organization:

· Support request for proposal (RFP) development, supplier evaluations, and results analysis.

· Learn the basics of negotiating deals with external suppliers.

· Advance process automation and continuous-improvement initiatives using AI and emerging technologies where appropriate.

· Analyze supply chain data to uncover trends and actionable insights that inform business decisions.

· Partner with Procurement Finance on invoice auditing, contract negotiations, and related analytical projects.

· Document current business processes and workflows to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders, business leaders, and external suppliers to support strategic supplier relationship management and advance project objectives.

· Evaluate supplier-risk, business-continuity, and operational-resilience data to support due diligence and identify gaps or exceptions.

· Monitor supplier issues and remediation plans, and communicate status, dependencies, and key risks through clear leadership reporting.

· Create dashboards and visualizations that improve visibility into performance and key metrics.

Minimum Requirements:

· Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in either: Finance, Business Analytics, Supply Chain, Data Science, Mathematics, Health Care Management or related degree at an accredited university or college

· The ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the internship and work in-office 5 days per week.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

· An interest in health care and insurance

· Interest and experience using generative AI tools

· Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

· Knowledge of Tableau or related data visualization software

· Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
