About Public Allies Connecticut
Public Allies Connecticut is part of the national Public Allies AmeriCorps program, which develops emerging leaders through paid apprenticeships with nonprofit and government partners. Allies serve at a host organization and build real-world skills in community leadership, project management, and organizational capacity-building.
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting Allies to serve at four Connecticut host organizations for the 2026-27 service term. Each role is a capacity-building position focused on creating tools, systems, and partnerships that outlast the service year.
Host Sites and Roles
Music Haven (New Haven): Communications & Student Support Coordinator
Support Music Haven's 20th anniversary by documenting its history and developing storytelling and social media content. Work with students and staff in the after-school program to gather student perspectives, create a Student Activity Binder, and build a sustainable Student Spotlight process. Research the connection between music participation and youth well-being to support communications, grant writing, and program development.
City of Bridgeport, Mayor's Initiative for Reentry Affairs (MIRA)
Strengthen the For Change Program, which supports returning citizens, youth, and community members affected by violence. Coordinate outreach, conduct interviews and focus groups to assess community needs, support certificate programs for reentry success and workforce readiness, and create presentations and materials using PowerPoint, Excel, and Canva. Research grant opportunities, build community partnerships, and develop long-term resources such as program toolkits and a structured outreach plan.
Community Services to Support Independence (Bridgeport)
Strengthen the organization's capacity to connect individuals and families with community resources. Research and organize referral partners, develop outreach and engagement tools, create resource guides and referral-tracking materials, and document workflows so staff can adopt sustainable systems. This role focuses on systems and processes, not direct case management.
EMERGE Connecticut (Bridgeport)
Provide behind-the-scenes administrative and program support under the Program Coordinator. Prepare program materials and participant packets, support scheduling and logistics, track attendance, organize files and trackers, and help get spaces ready for orientations and workshops. Contribute to checklists and systems that improve staff efficiency, while maintaining confidentiality and a trauma-informed, welcoming environment.
